Hi, I’m Abbie.
I’M A MOM WHO CODES AND LISTENS TO PEOPLE.
I am a wife and a mother of three children benefiting from Marana Unified education. I serve as the treasurer of the Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO).
I am a person with a disability, a mom with a special needs child, and a small business owner. I know how to speak up for myself and my children, and now I want to make a difference in our community and advocate for YOU.
As a woman in STEM, I have a unique skill set with over a decade of experience in healthcare technology. Now, I work on software development, focusing on voice-based artificial intelligence.
Schools today are not like the schools of the past. There are legitimate safety issues around sending our children to school. The parents’ voices advocating for our children’s education have been ignored when they should be amplified.
I’m here to PROTECT OUR KIDS. They deserve a parent on the school board looking out for them; we don’t have one right now. That is why I am running for Marana Unified Governing Board.
Prioritize safety in our schools and make it a priority to equip staff with the tools they need to keep ALL students and educators safe by making decisions driven by science and focusing on the health and safety of our kids
Pandemic has caused learning loss to grow. Encourage initiatives to help close the academic gap, like providing support to teachers, evidence-based acceleration approaches, promoting parental/caretaker involvement, and hiring high-quality staff.
Advocate for empowering minority groups that have historically felt discriminated against by strengthening anti-bullying policies. This includes people of color, people with disabilities, and those who identify as LGBTQIA2S+.
Provide opportunities for community engagement through collaboration so people can stay connected with schools in their area and feel like they are an integral part of the process of educating the next generation
Want to make a difference in your child’s school? It starts with electing parents with children attending the Marana Unified schools. Currently, no sitting board member has children attending any of the schools in the Marana Unified District.
Let’s change this by voting for Abbie Hlavacek and Kathryn Mikronis this November 8th, 2022.
Kathryn Mikronis has over 17 years of partnering with Marana Unified Schools. Her two children have attended Marana Unified since preschool, and her daughter has graduated from Marana High school, where her son currently attends. Her youngest has autism, and she is their primary caregiver for them.
As a parent, Kathryn understands the importance of partnering with teachers to ensure educational success. She advocates for her children’s education and wants to be a part of Marana Unified to see them grow and thrive in their academics.
